Heterogeneous phenotypes of conduction block in immune-mediated neuropathies

  • In patients with chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyneuropathy (CIDP) conduction block (CB) is linked with conductance dysfunction at the paranodal regions, while in multifocal motor neuropathy (MMN) axonal abnormalities more likely underlie the CB.

Why this matters ?

  • CB is common in immune-mediated neuropathies such as CIDP and MMN however whether the underlying pathophysiology is the same is not clear. This study provides knowledge of the heterogeneity of the phenotypes which can be utilized in designing new therapeutic approaches.
